Day 1

Begin your first day of winter birding with a warm, hearty meal at Your Way Cafe, where the friendly atmosphere and comforting dishes will fuel your adventure. Next, stretch your legs on the Vroman’s Nose Hiking Trail, a local favorite that offers sweeping views and the chance to spot hawks soaring above the cliffs. For lunch, head to The Carrot Barn at Schoharie Valley Farms, where farm-fresh food and cozy surroundings await. While you warm up with a hot drink, keep an eye out for eagles—this stop is part of the Schoharie County Eagle Trail! After lunch, take a peaceful stroll through Landis Arboretum, where you’ll find chickadees, woodpeckers, and plenty of other feathered friends among the trees. Don’t forget to visit the Bluebird Trail with over 40 nesting boxes. Before you leave town, make a quick stop at SCET Eagle Hot Spot #6, where the Route 20 Bridge crosses over the Schoharie Creek, offering prime eagle-watching opportunities. End the day with a delicious dinner at The Farmers Beef and Brew in Schoharie, where you can enjoy farm-to-table dishes like shrimp tacos or NY strip steak in a welcoming, cozy setting. After a full day of exploration, rest up at one of Schoharie County’s charming accommodations, from bed-and-breakfasts to cozy cabins.

Day 2

Start your second day of winter birding with a cozy breakfast at Brick House Bakery, where a hot cup of coffee and a slice of their famous cheesecake will fuel you for the day ahead. Bundle up and embark on the Schoharie County Eagle Trail, where you’ll get a front-row view of bald eagles soaring overhead or perched in treetops along the Sterling Insurance Group and Cobleskill Reservoir. After a morning of birdwatching, warm up with lunch at the historic Bull’s Head Inn, where you can enjoy hearty fare and perhaps a ghost story or two. Spend the afternoon shopping in Cobleskill, from rare finds at Catnap Books to treasures at Cavern View Antiques and Cobleskill Indoor Flea Market. Explore the Iroquois Museum’s nature park, where you might catch sight of woodpeckers or nuthatches among the snow-covered trees. Finally, wrap up your day with a hearty dinner at Chieftans, savoring traditional Irish-American fare while reflecting on your birding adventure.

Day 3

On Day 3 of your winter birding adventure, start your day with a hearty breakfast or brunch at Cobleskill Diner, a beloved family-owned spot that’s been serving classic American comfort food since 1983. Enjoy a satisfying meal before heading to Sharon Springs, where you’ll discover an array of charming local shops. Begin at the Beekman 1802 Kindness Shop, famous for its artisanal goods, then explore Cobbler & Co for eclectic gifts and Sharon Sprigs for unique dried florals. Continue your stroll to Rural Provisions for rustic home goods, The Everything Shoppe for a bit of everything, and finally, indulge in a sweet treat at Austintacious Bakery. Before you leave, get your heart racing with a thrilling dog sledding adventure led by Run By Dogs. Feel the excitement as you’re pulled through snowy landscapes by a team of eager sled dogs—an unforgettable way to end your winter getaway.
