Schoharie County goes deeper than you think. Literally. Beneath the rolling hills and farmland lies a network of ancient limestone caverns carved by millions of years of water and time. Whether you are descending into the largest show cave in the Northeast or following a guide to a hidden underground waterfall, what waits beneath the surface here is unlike anything above it.

Some experiences you stumble upon anywhere. These belong to Schoharie County alone. From the roar of engines at the motocross track to the thunder of the demolition derby grandstand at the Sunshine Fair, from gliding through snow-covered trails behind a team of huskies to throwing a disc on one of the only PDGA A-Tier courses in the region, this county has a way of surprising you with what is possible out here. Schoharie County has some serious roots. Wander beneath towering old-growth trees at Landis Arboretum, then travel back 385 million years to a time when some of the world’s earliest forests grew near what is now Gilboa. From living collections and ancient woodlands to fossils that changed what we know about the planet’s first trees, there’s a lot of history growing around here.
